Dell Inspiron 7000 (7568) Hard Drive / RAM Upgrade / Removal / Replacement / Break Down Procedures

[WPXperVideo id=111 ]today we’re going to do a hard drive upgrade on a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series this specific model is model seven five six eight it’s probably similar on other models that are similar to this one but this specific model that’s the information for it so this one the battery’s internal so you can’t just simply remove the battery but what you can do is remove this bottom panel these are standard Phillips head screws so I’m going to use a standard Phillips head screwdriver and go ahead and remove all these screws on the bottom you’re going to remove one two three four five six seven eight nine ten now that the screws are removed we’re going to pop this bottom cover off normally you would use a spudger which I don’t have so I’m going to try using a a giftcard slash credit card you’re going to want to gently separate the space between the bottom cover and the frame of the notebook I normally try to find a space that’s already got a bit of an opening to work with like over by the USB ports so I’ll use my credit card or gift card whatever you’re using to try to separate the space here in between the HDMI port and the frame like so okay and then as you do that you work your way around let’s start to pop off take your time do it nice and gently no rush and it will come off just work your way all the way around the entire laptop got most of it off now except for the back area here and there you go that removes the cover the back cover or a bottom cover I should say you and here you’ll find you have the memory swap and over here is the hard drive today we’re upgrading the hard drive if you want to upgrade the memory though it’s pretty simple it’s right here just simply remove that memory replace it with whatever you’re going to upgrade it with this specific model comes with an 8 gig stick it could probably upgrade it to 16 but I haven’t verified that yet now under normal circumstances I would say to disconnect the battery before proceeding however in my case since I’m just doing the hard drive I’m going to be very careful not to touch any parts of the circuit board with my tools and I’m simply going to remove this hard drive and upgrade it with a new one without disconnecting the battery you can choose to do so if you like if you’re worried that you might short something out it would definitely be a good idea to remove the battery I’ve done this enough time so I feel confident I can do this without removing the battery to remove the hard drive you’re going to remove this screw here we’re also going to remove this screw here there’s also a third screw right back here that you need to remove now that although all three of those screws are removed you should be able to simply lift up on this hard drive carefully and pull out the data cable behind it carefully again like so now to swap out this hard drive I’m going to swap it out with an SSD specifically have a crucial m500 I’ll be replacing it with it’s lowering capacity but as you probably know with an SSD you’re gaining greatly in procurements so you simply remove these four screws and you’re going to want to put the hard drive back in this little caddy that it’s in the exact same way so I’m going to go ahead and remove the screws now I’m going to move my laptop to the side so it’s not the drop any screws in it okay now if those four screws are removed this sort of kind of like caddy comes right off and if you look at the way the hard drives put in you simply put the new hard drive in the exact same way and reattach your screws okay hard drive is installed in the caddy now we just simply reverse our procedures on the installation or for the installation by doing the following so I’m going to move my hard drive to the side bring my laptop back in place okay and we’re going to reattach the data cable as so now we’re going to gently place our hard drive back in place lining it up with the same screw holes you should feel it snap into place so to say and we’re going to use our same screws that we removed earlier to reattach it to the chassis of the laptop that concludes the installation of the hard drive so we’re going to carefully grab our lid it’s not really like the bottom but we’re going to carefully put this back in place on the motherboard making sure that no cables or wires are sticking out which in my case there is not I feel comfortable placing this cover back on and basically it just snaps in place so you’re simply going to snap it in place all the way around like so okay and then check your check all the way around make sure it looks like it’s sealed properly no gaps in my case it looks good so I’m going to go ahead and replace the screws there again there are ten of them finish putting your screws in power up and start your operating system and you should be good to go thanks for watching you

Dell: Inspiron 14R-N4010 Hard Drive Replace / Dis-assembly – Part 2

[WPXperVideo id=68 ]all right so I know you couldn’t wait to get back to this I had a customer stop in he forgot his power supply yesterday and dropped it by and then you know a couple cause is that whatever blah blah blah so anyway look so I can ready take this apart all right at least take the motherboard out right here the Wi-Fi connects like a little slot chip thing and that’s what it’s hooked on right now so you have to try to gently pop that up let’s see there we go that’s out great you want to keep that in mind when you put it back together – and now we finally access the hard drive I know that’s what we are all impatient and waiting for well it’s a long enough and we really have to do to get this off of the motherboard there’s two screws to visit just to screws here on the side for the hard drive assembly stuff whatever and that’s really all there is to that part and that just slides right out of there now we just have to change the hard drive awesome this should be loose usually it’s like a tight fit but then you know you play with a little bit in there you guys good four of these two on each side of course and that’s uh-oh that those four screws keep them right there well whatever you want to place them that’s not right there hard drive up to the side that’s a that’s a good Drive it works it’s our test drive here we go to put the new Drive back take that out of its little plastic any stetic bag make sure this will go on in the right place how did this go again I forgot already of great memory like this if I do remember it correctly well to make sure to be folder go back on place I wonder are you here for my gaming videos or are you here from this video will you stick around for my gaming videos of me sucking at video games is it possible and I think that’s how it goes maybe yep that is exactly how it goes should I only not to move it anywhere from there but I mean I it you know whatever here we go now you can put it back together the fun part the most exciting part the part you tuned in for putting it back together okay so more [Music] on each side you know whatever it’ll be easier to work with cool that harddrive goes back into place why the did they create it like this in fact it would be great if there is designer commented on this why are you idiot and why did you design it this way not everybody is going to ship it back to Dao and why would you want to put your own technical people through this hassle it’s like you can possibly break many other things in the process of you know getting back to where you got to replace us at there should be a little panel here go look at other laptop designs there should be no reason have to take the entire motherboard out I might have damaged something in the process of this and I hope I did not I don’t think I did I don’t want to this goes back into place make sure it all lines up all that good stuff um I think that is good make sure this isn’t place down here let’s go yes let’s make sure this is all in here there we go now that should work let’s see there we go good it’s in place [Music] that should be in place let’s see about the rest of everything that doesn’t go in yet this nope this goes in next and putting it back together hopefully I can put it back together in a better record amount of time than I took it apart but also at the same time you do not want to rush this take your time take some patience take a chill pill whatever the works for you and put this together correctly so that it still works when you turn it back on I was glad it was working when I last put it together so let’s make sure it works again this time when I put it together this time as I said before all these screws are the same size so they should all be the same size that may or may not fool you I don’t think a screw goes there not screws don’t go everywhere on this board actually I think some of them actually caught from the bottom as well and that’s more than likely a case because they obviously have to hold on the top panel stuff that goes up here usually where it indicates stuff like these numbers be 8 9 7 B 4 B 3 B 6 B 5 B 1 B 2 B yeah that’s usually where the screws go I did actually find it kind of interesting that um when I was looking into how to work on this thing because you know before we work on a customer’s computer if it’s a model we have not played with before we want to make sure we’re taking it apart and putting it together correctly so this screwed right here the ground for the LCD screen I want to assume it actually wanted the person who made the forum the forum post about it documenting it working on it this screw was completely stripped it was stripped he really you know it was I mean he still worked on it afterward but that screw it was just a mess to deal with for that person but he got it working good for him his girlfriend’s happy but I don’t know that person personally myself it was just you know something that came up with Google and pointed me to a forum about it documented with pictures that hey buddy where’s your videos this will be my first video of doing something like this other videos I’ve taken apart stuff I’m going to do an unboxing video let me see that is all the screws for that I think I did not miss anything that’s he did i I do not think I did that’s awesome tricky part here the drive I trouble getting it out without pulling the panel stuff off this is ready to go back on so that’s what I’m going to do now like I said you want to watch how everything goes back together too

How to Simply Restore a Dell Laptop PC to Factory Settings

[WPXperVideo id=48 ]hey guys a Steve on the guru brew you know one of the most requested things that we do here at the computer repair shop is to restore computers to their factory default settings you know a twist of this is often customers have pictures and music on their computer that they want saved before we do this because once you restore a computer back you lose all this stuff it’s deleted in the process so we must save that data before we go ahead and do the restore so I’m going to show you how to do that this edition of the Guru broom this is done on a dull laptop so stay tuned for that well this is the Dell laptop that I was telling you about one of my customers recently brought me this computer in because she was on a vacation recently and she was using the Wi-Fi in the hotel rooms and shortly after that started noticing strange windows popping up and things just act and unusual so she brought it to me to remove all this junk out of there and return it to its former glory so let’s go ahead and turn this on and see what we’re dealing with here this is the Dell Inspiron n5o for old laptop it has Windows 7 it’s um it’s got the AI core processor in telling her she also said it was quite a bit slower ok she’s provided me with the password so I’ll be back after I type that in ok I just put the password in somewhat down all right away there’s a window popping up here this is an optimizer pearl performance monitor oh look there’s another one yuuna blue speed up my PC the girl knows icon she has on the desktop holy smokes so let’s just cancel out of here and see what happens this thing’s still here it’s probably waiting for an internet connection now I should have mentioned when I start repairing these I disconnect it from the Wi-Fi and I don’t have any Ethernet cable on here because I don’t want it connecting with the Internet at all so hopefully and I’ll just give up yep it gave up and it’s going into all kinds of stuff here yeah I see why she brought me this computer it’s annoying me already and we just got started who is this attention 37 registry errors yeah well you’re probably one of the Proms close that all up before you exit Oh annoying is that and it’s stolen maybe going with that this is called unit unit blue speed up my PC 2013 I don’t think this company is doing so well otherwise they won’t be doing this to people here’s that purchase now okay well I finally got rid of the pop-up until I launched the internet they’ll probably they’ll probably more anyway it doesn’t look like anything’s damaged here you know at first glance it just looks like there’s some nuisances happening and who knows maybe they changed their front page to her Internet Explorer and that sort of thing I don’t know okay to get saving her dad I’m going to come down here to the Start menu click on it and in this little search box here I’m going to type in Windows Easy Transfer and you’ll see it came up right up here up at the top I’m going to go and click on it and this is the program we’re going to use to move all her dad over and you can see all the things that will be transferred the documents music pictures email everything she wants in the nice thing about this transfer is it doesn’t transfer viruses so we’re going to go ahead and click Next on this here next and then it’s asking me how I want to transfer out now if you have a cable you can use the top one there you could pull it over a network but usually the one I like to do is this last one which is an external one you can use either a flash drive or you can using a portable hard drive and that’s what I have over here on the table this is my homemade hard drive let’s it’s a big beast but it works well I plug it into the USB here I’m not going to plug this in just yet though click on this last one here and then this is my old computer click and it’s looking for the accounts that this computer has on it and you can see that there’s a shared as well as the barb folder there at the top so it’s going to take a few minutes to estimate how much disk space I’m going to need and it’s also checking to see what files can be transferred and you can see it’s already come up with the answers here and I’m going to need at least five point eight gigabyte to transfer all these files so make sure that you have that available on a flash drive or a portable hard drive before you click Next okay go ahead and click Next and this gives you the opportunity to put a password in if you’d like to do that it’s just a password to protect the archive I don’t usually use it though let’s go ahead and hit save and it’s popped up this window and it’s asking me where I want it to save it to and here’s where you would put in your flash drive while plugging your portable hard drive which I’m going to do now turn this on plug it in waiting for it to come up here there it is there’s a backup Drive there so I can go ahead and click on this and I can get safe here now you can see it’s it’s going to go ahead and save it off on my portable hard drive or flash drive or whatever you’re using and it’s going to take some time those bars are moving quite slow so you just have to be patient and it’ll eventually give you an estimate up here how long it’s going to take but it’s going to run for a while that’s got five point eight gig so it’s it’s going to take little time so just be patient with that I’ll be back as soon as something else happens okay well as you can see these files have been saved in there they are the green checkmark which means they’re done so I’m just going to come up here and click next here and it’s just telling me what to do when I’m ready to put the files back on the new install and you can read that if you want sit nice and shut this close button okay everything is now saved on my external hard drive or flash drive depending on what you use so go ahead and disconnect that and put it in safe place for later and what we’re going to do now is we’re going to go ahead and restart this machine and we’re going to go on with f8 we’re going to start tape tapping up 8 when it restarts someone hit restart here and then there’s my FA here you’re reading starts happening I’m going to wait for it to start coming back off where I start tapping at all okay here we go tap DUP DUP okay okay you’ll get this screen up here and this is the screen that we’re going to go to to repair my computer here at the top there now if you don’t have this option on your computer that means that you’re going to have to use CD or DVD installation disk and if you don’t have those discs you’re going to have to get them from Dell or whatever manufacturer your computer that you have so again if you do not have this option on this up aid this boot option you’re going to have to use the install disc and you won’t be able to follow this technique that I’m going to show you next so let’s go ahead and hit this button that says repair your computer press ENTER now we are doing this on a Dell machine but this does work for other brands of computers you know such as HP and Acer knows time machines the buttons and options might be in slightly different areas or spots but it’s basically all the same how to restore these machines to factory settings okay I press that repair your computer and I’m just waiting for this next screen to come up it’s coming up now it’s asking me my keyboard input method I’m just going to with us on this one and then it’s asking me what account that I would like to access and if you click on this button here you can see that there’s two groups and the one that I want is this one here called barb and I’m around if there’s a password you need to enter it in here and I’m going to do that now so I’ll hang out for that okay I got this screen that came up next and it’s asking me what recovery tool I want to use and you can read on down through your all the different ones the one that we’re looking for is this bottom one here it’s the Dell data safe restore and emergency backup click that and then the next screen comes up they’re asking you how you would like to restore your computer and the first option is restore computer and preserve my new or change files and because we already backed up our data onto this hard drive over here we’re going to go with more options so we’re going to do a complete format so we’re going to choose this second one here you want to make sure that you choose this restore my computer next and then you can read on through here if you’d like but there’s the factory image that we’re after here looks like I have to highlight this and then hit next and then it’s asking me how I would like to do a system backup and if I would like to save my old files and again I already saved them on this hard drive over here so I’m going to choose the second one here we store without preserving thanks it says my computer is about to be restored all the data currently on the computer will be deleted and replaced ok I understand yes now if I had to made this backup over here you’d want to backup first it’s just let me know that everything on this computer will be gone so I say yes in next and it’s off it’s actually reformatting my hard drive and it’s reinstalling all the files this will take some time and as soon as something happens next I will do that you just got to be patient on this one well I just happen to walk by this and notice that it’s 99% complete so I figured I’d turn on the camera so I didn’t miss the next step you can see it’s still working there even though it is 99% so let’s just hang here for a minute and see what happens okay so came up it says recovery complete and there is a restart button here so let’s go ahead and do that click so it’s acting just like it was when this thing is first purchased and turned on its going to go through all the setup procedures and set up the desktop it’ll probably ask me for the clock settings and my username set up a password for me that’s worth them okay here’s where we answer our region and that’s worth that it’s going to go in next year but okay it’s asking me for a name I’m going to go ahead and use the same name that I came in on barb right there next now it’s asking me for a password how many is the password that she had provided me so I’m going to type that in I’ll be back and say okay I’ve got my password in there and I just have to accept the licensing terms there’s two there four ones here next and for now let’s just use the recommended settings set up your clock check the time make sure the calendar is correct Thanks you can join a wireless group here if you want to right now we’re just going to skip this because this is not my computer so this part of the process is just like if you were to turn it on for the first time when you purchase this computer as far as setting it up and getting windows going there’s nothing new here I’m going to go ahead and let this finish up and then when something needs to be said I’ll be back okay well I had to move tables because I have an internet connection on this table so I moved over here and started taking updates and you can tell that we’re still in the process of updating things but I’m going to go ahead and show you how I go ahead and put the data back on now so what we’re going to do is go ahead and plug in my hard drive that I previously saved all the data on tenth turn on get it in the USB for you all right just open the folder up here look down through here for my backup – then that would be this one and you can see if you remember when I first save this off there’s my barb and then there’s my shared items so you know I can just hit this transfer button and it will go ahead and put everything back on all right well the transfer has finished and you can click to see what’s been transferred here or you can click this button and this is very useful after you do one of these easy transfers if you click here you can see a list of programs that might be installed on your new computer that you would want to install and you can look on down through here and you see where it says here like Adobe Harris’s already installed so you know it it doesn’t reinstall applications that are external that are extra so I like to look on down through here and perhaps they’ll be some applications that I should be installing for my customer and you can see that this is the reason why a virus would not be transferred because it doesn’t transfer external programs at all and you know at some point she had Google Chrome on here now she doesn’t I won’t put that back on so you know I’m just looking through to make sure that there’s nothing that she’s missing and other than that this computer is now done you can see all our icons on the desktop look just like they did when I first started working on this the difference is that this machine now runs and runs well and the only thing left to do is go ahead and run this machine for a while and take all the updates from Microsoft you might want to visit the Microsoft software update page and make sure that everything is updated I’ll go through this list one more time and make sure there’s no programs that she needs to have installed before I give them back to her and I’ll install an anti-virus program to boot so that she’s safe and ready to go they don’t call the customer and tell her I come pick up her machine so if you need to restore your Dell operating system and save your data this is the way that I like to do it it’s a proven technique that’s worked over Dell Inspiron N5110 Hard Drive Replacement (Full Disassembly and Reassembly)

[WPXperVideo id=31 ]well it looks like we have a problem and I’m going to have to fix this at home this is in my machine this is somebody else’s it’s got a bad harddrive but we have a replacement harddrive you will need some tools you will need a small Phillips and small flat screwdriver we’ll disconnect that unfortunately on this model Dell which happens to be an inspiration which is made in China of course Dell in their infinite wisdom decided that they’re going to bury the harddrive completely inside the system one might think that it’s going to be right under this cover over here but that’s not to be so in order to repair this machine here’s what we have to do first this can act all the peripherals this happens to be for mousey there’s no reason to stick that in a USB 3 port when you got a USB 2 on the other side where it doesn’t matter but it’s not mine there’s a card reader you’ve got to take a little blank out so you just push that and take that out flipper upside down so this is a disassembly and replacement of hard drive on a dell inspiron in 5110 move the clips and take out the battery now we have 13 screws to remove fortunately all of these are the same size so you really don’t have to be too particular about grouping them or putting them in any sort of fashion you just take them out there we are a little later there will be some smaller size screws but there’s only five them okay this is of course with your small Philips this is the thirteenth screw this one is captive and you just pop that cover off and take the side optical drive comes right out you just slide it out put that aside and now you flip it back over open it up and now we have to remove the keyboard you’ll need your flat blade for this there are a series of clips here on the keyboard you have for them one two three four on this model and basically what you’re going to do is push in on the clip do not slip with the screwdriver and scratch a little plastic chrome because then it’s all scratched and nobody likes that so you just kind of get in the groove there and just push it in and I like to put my fingernail in there to kind of help pop it up just a bit it doesn’t matter you sometimes you’ll miss the clip and the keyboard will pop back down when you just push in on those and then try to get in here with your fingernail sometimes you can go with the screwdriver and pop up your keyboard you pull it forward towards the screen it’s a little tight flip it up upside down now you’ve got to disconnect the cable you just flip up the little plastic thing and it pops out set the keyboard aside three more flat panel connector cables FPC’s whatever they’re cold disconnect that that’s where the power button this one is for the touchpad this one is for these buttons here that nobody ever uses and now it looks like we have about four screws you’ll need your phillips again for that so take out those these are the same size you can just put them in your same screw pile no line can buy very nice two three four screws okay that should be it I don’t see any other screws so now stick your fingers in the slot here for the DVD drive went stick your fingers in here and just rip off the top cover now we have to remove the LCD screen and I already see that we have a small issue if you notice right here that is disconnected it shouldn’t be that way this was sent to Dell previously and apparently Dell didn’t do a good job putting it back together because that should have been connected anyway here’s how you do it you disconnect your wireless connectors you’ll have to disconnect that and that and over here this is the cable that connects to the LCD you just get your thumbs in there using your thumb nails just kind of push on the connector and you can work it out like that alright and now you take out the screws for the screen these are all again the same size once again so you can just put these with the well we drop that one in there we’ll get it doesn’t matter because we’re taking a little part okay now that you have those four screws out make sure you have all the wires disconnected lift the LCD off and set that aside now you’re going to remove this trim piece it just kind of pops up and you just kind of work it out like that set that aside and now there are a couple of other things to disconnect one is I believe what’s the this is the Bluetooth module just put your fingernail under that and pick it up the cable for the speakers you just work that out with your index finger nails and take that out and now we have five screws to remove which are here these are the smaller screws to set them aside separately to three sometimes you don’t need to remove these two screws but I do as a matter of course if I don’t end up needing to remove them I just put them back later these boards are plugged together it’s just the press fit so you just kind of lift up while holding the underneath board down sometimes it’s tight there we go and you now lift up the mainboard and remove it while I have that out the screw I drop this right in there so let me just get that out there he is okay you can use the base of the machine as a nice little workspace and here’s the hard drive to replace so we have a couple screws here these are also small screws I tend to keep them separate from the other five but I believe they are actually the same size so it doesn’t really matter there’s two screws so you take those out and just wiggle the hard drive out you can put that aside now you have to transfer over the bracket so I’m just going to take the new drive out of the thing here save the silica gel for something else put the new drive next to the old one so you can match up the same orientation of the connectors in the same place and that so you don’t forget how how it goes and these four screws two on each side there are two separate brackets you just do them one at a time okay that slide that out of the way by the way you should be wearing an anti-static wrist strap and not do this on a tablecloth but because I’m a ninja I don’t need that we put these screws in turn it 180 degrees and take out the other side okay set the old drive aside you can put it in an anti-static bag but it’s bad anyway so fortunately this error was a more of a transient type thing where it told you in time rather than actually telling you oh there’s a harddrive problem after already failed so in this case we’re lucky and was able to save the data on that okay brackets are transferred so just pick that up come back here now you’ll notice the two connectors here that lines up with this here in case you forget you just slide it back in your two screws you had separate go back to secure the hard drive back to the main board so that’s in look there we go okay now at this point some people actually take this little board off it’s the same press fit connector as we had there I generally leave it on and just trying to kind of weasel it in there so you kind of have to hook it in the back first like that and lay it down you have to make sure you get the sound cable out of the way and then you just kind of work it down until you’ll kind of know when it sits in there right and when it does the two little standoffs are going to line up perfectly with the holes here and you just push down to secure that we’re now going to replace the five screws make sure that this small dotter board is connected to the main board still you can just see the standoffs right through the screw holes so we have two three for five we’re going to reconnect the speaker cable audio cable whatever you want to call it bluetooth module just press fits into that in this direction although it looks like it’ll stick out from the machine it doesn’t you just got to line it up these tend to be a little bit of a problem sometimes to get them lined up but that just kind of goes in like that and now we do everything basically in reverse order we’re going to take the trim piece take all the schmutz off of it because sometimes that happens and we’ll just get this in just kind of snap it in everything looks nice and lined up on the sides here so we’re good and now we’re going to put the LCD screen back on the unit the pins on the screen here these posts whatever fit into the holes here and here sometimes you’ll end up with these broken and you kind of have to have somebody hold the screen for you you just kind of wiggle it until it fits in there make sure these cables are not pinched under that and the screen will sit there provided your hinge standoffs are in good shape four screws will secure and these are the standard size screws from everything else four screws will secure the LCD back to the base assembly I recommend that you plug the LVDS cable the LCD cable back in LVDS in case it’s on jeopardy tonight by the way stands for low voltage differential signaling and you just kind of work it until it feels right and push it in with your fingers fingernails that’s in and now you retouch the wireless connectors these are marked that one’s not filled in that one is so that one’s the black wire so you just kind of put it over it these are a little fidgety as well and they have some trouble there’s one and two that’s that okay Thomas assembly put it in the back end in first like that push down everywhere along the perimeter the side and back here just kind of mush it down till it goes I recommend you next reconnect your cables before putting the screws in because if you put the screws in you may forget to reconnect these cables so do that first you just slide them in under the thing and push down little keeper these are a little fidgety as well so sometimes you have to just work with switch hands off and do that kind of stuff till you can get it in there just be careful with them they’ll go if you just go nice and easy with them so fit that in put that down there are four screws for this so we got these are all again the standard regular-sized screws two three four and your keyboard goes back in we’ll lift that back up because sometimes that can go back down this cable is a little tricky because it looks like it just goes in but on this model it goes this way you have to flip it upside down and upside down again sometimes these are a real pain to get in there but it looks like I just got it first try a lot of times you’ll have to play with it you know it’s right when the white line just lines up with that now once you have that the little things sticking out here you just kind of slide it back in there make sure it’s pushed back all the way snap snap snap snap and push down on the sides because sometimes a little catches for that flip her back over and start replacing screws you will sometimes have to hold that little back trim piece in order to get the corner screws in occasionally it doesn’t want to stay and you just got to hold it it doesn’t matter really how you put them together some people like to do an X pattern and it really doesn’t matter with something like this the screws generally all line up 12th screw these pieces back your optical drive slides in there is no screw for that but rather there’s a protrusion on the cover holds it in place last screw reinstall your battery lock it always lock it don’t leave it unlocked we’re now going to reinstall the SD card blank it just pops in there and just push it in to click and this is going to go back in there and we have successfully replaced the hard drive we’ll just go into the BIOS I believe it’ll show you see different powers on I’m just that good and let us see fixed hard drive Western Digital 750 gig have a nice day okay I have created a USB flash drive of the recovery media prior to replacing the hard drive as you just seen as all the stuff there still and we’re all set so we’re going to do a factory recovery it says the lead SATA and resets all partitions will click on next this will recover your extra space drive to the factory condition Thank You China do you confirm yes I do click on next your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected full system backup only the C partition that should be capitalized but let that one slide will be affected other partitions will not be impacted may be affected if an emergency file and folder backup was created it will still be saved in the location you selected so basically it just told you a whole bunch of now you’re not sure yeah continue just do what I want next formatting and it’s going to go through that and reinstall and we will come back once I have the system at the ubi out of box experience screen well it’s a little bit later now and here we are at the out of box experience I’m going to run through this we’ll hit next I’m going to look you away while I put the name in because you’re not to see that kind I’ll hit next now password the user whoopsies the user can set that up later I’m using the mouse with my left hand so a little jiggly with it recommend it is fine we are in the Eastern time zone and I’m not worried about the time and date right now the date is correct the time is quite off so we’ll just bump that up oh there’s all kinds of networks all kinds of networks look at that full signal strength unsecured Network oh next home network and that’s pretty much the deal this is going to connect it to my network and apply the settings and we’re just going to skip the homegroup things we don’t need that and windows is going to finalize the settings and welcome us to windows preparing the desktop and that is pretty much all there was to it as you saw in the video before about how to replace the hard drive as long as you have your recovery media ready or a copy of Windows to install and your appropriate drivers it isn’t typically that big of a deal and fortunately like I explained the hard drive in this unit did not fail before giving that error or something like that it gave the error rather it gave the error but still a lot of to function this step always takes a long time especially on the first boot up instead of just creating a new user account it is still loading and I know this is super exciting don’t buy a machine without a harddrive indicator light because then you have no idea if it’s actually stalled or what the deal is and I got to restart to apply these changes we’re going to do that later and this is all fine we’ll just hit finish it’s going to sit there forever and keep loading it’s going to personalize these settings it just switched into the arrow theme and it’s the personalizing settings loading away we have a storm brewing outside another big snowstorm something else we need this is terribly exciting while we’re still loading just got to hang on and wait and we have a desktop we have sound and I wants to set up this crap so what I’m going to do is just tell it goodbye next thing you do is check device manager you can just right click on my computer and hit properties and device Mangler just to ensure that it’s updates and all kinds of stuff there’s no bangs so we’re good now I’ll just apply all the windows updates

Dell: Inspiron 14R-N4010 Hard Drive Replace / Dis-assembly – Part 1

[WPXperVideo id=24 ]hello and how is it going at this time instead of destroying a power supply I have to swap the hard drive on this Dell something something I remember the model off the top of my head Inspiron n4 0 1 0 the fun part about this one is well all done let me get back to it the hard drive on this come to customers computer was going bad it didn’t completely go bad but it was on its way it was slow you know really didn’t want to cooperate whatever so it it’s not completely dead but it will be dead soon enough so skip it let’s just save the hassle swap the hard drive so cool let’s get started um yes remove the battery now the fun one about this one is already unlocked front one about this one is ah it’s not like traditional computer stuff it’s uh let me see there’s only one back panel back here and that only has the RAM yeah only the RAM in that slot and oh that’s it now normally I wouldn’t even care about recording this I guess but there’s no disassembly videos doing this out there so I might as well be that one cool guy that does that and helps out other technicians potential technicians do-it-yourselfers whatever the yeah you don’t have to worry just take all these screws out of the bottom they are all the same size so mixing them up don’t worry about it the only ones that are different back here are the ones for the battery but those are much smaller you won’t mix those up if you whatever so just remove all the screws shoot this thing squeaky that’s what you get with these things though come on grab it there we go I didn’t quite want to break the bad news of the customer but I had to but for how much it it gave a hassle of taking it apart I’m just trying to say it’s more than 50 books although we’re going to stick with 50 books because hopefully it works afterward because it does work now we put in a test drive to test it to make sure that’s it before we go ahead and be like okay we have to replace the drive but yeah we do have to replace the drive there’s however many screws back here I’ve not counted them you just got to take them all out don’t worry about anything else just take them all out let’s see yes there was one two or three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen maybe I’m bad maybe I’m wrong maybe it’s more than 14 maybe it’s less 15 I cannot yet take the drive out now okay it seems them on to the fun part that’s mate that’s not four step the fun part now I got a pop all this out I’m trying to remember whether I pop I think I took the keyboard out first it’s been a good few days since I last did this but the fun part is okay make sure it’s safe or remove that I like this this is convenient it has a little tab that holds the ribbon cable in pop that out ever so gently set that off to the side where you can forget about it in fact let’s forget about that drive okay there’s no screws immediately in this vicinity well let’s go ahead and get all this out and taken care of there’s this little plastic piece let’s set that off right there it’s not going anywhere and take out these more ribbons they are there’s three here in this little spot right here lift the tabs up ever so gently you can easily and effortlessly break those out of their little slot thingies and you can lose them and you do not want to do that especially if it’s a customer which of course this is this case I already disassembled this once because there is a drive in here it was it just a test drive we advised them you know what if you want to you can have it with a small little 40 gig Drive I think it was 40 gig and you know be done with it but these days you want the drive size so ever so gently there’s tabs around here just gently pry them out don’t force anything you do not want to break anything and you know just try to gently right out which I’m going to now I am in the process of doing want me to concentrate for a moment there we go almost there are we almost there I sure hope so this should all come out ever so there’s tabs up here now we have to pop out I have to pop out we all can do this together I almost feel oh yes I almost forgot about that one here we go screws right here make sure to remove all of these screws not some of them all of them there’s these ones back here in the battery area I almost forgot about those what you want to do do not lose your screws you know try to organize them and try to remember how they all go back in place you don’t wanna you know botch it up and those screws and says I don’t really know if I have to remove these or not but I really don’t think so but you know what I just want to be on the safe side while I’m down here I want to make sure that you know it’s all good okay there we go and cool that should be good the front top pad bezel whatever should come out with no issue it on that let’s ensure that and there we go awesome and it looks like one of the screw things here I have to find out where it was came out so you always do want to watch for that as well I’ll find it when we put it back together set that off to the side you don’t need to dabble with that for the moment and here we’re at the coming to the last portion kind of not really there’s always more to go there was something holding this in place but there should nut but not be anything seems it was just that top panel so that’s off to you also want to watch for the screws that are here because after I got it all back together I realized hey I have extra screws three right here make sure they go back there when you put it back together because I forgot to do it when I last put it together this time I should remember correctly I sure hope I was out to take it back part so don’t let me forget now let’s see how to organize the rest of this and here we go I try to keep it all organized all nice neat whatever now the dreadful part about this just be really careful I mean I can’t emphasize that enough because you know it’s easy because this is whoever designed this model Dell the what is it I want to try to recall 2/10 at 1:04 can’t emphasize that enough idiot designer he’ll eat to swap a hard drive you have to make it this complicated sir that’s that’s retarded as hell I can’t emphasize that enough okay so anyway we got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 screws we have to take out of this portion of beat board so let’s set those aside in a place that we won’t forget them these are all the same sizes I recalled only one that’s different is this one up here that is a ground for this LCD screen but really I think that stays with the little thing that it comes with so you really won’t you you have I keep track of that one because it’s going to stay all together you right this these screws right here maybe a little different maybe not completely certain about that one but hey all these get removed because you cannot you have to take this heatsink out here because otherwise it holds the board and a like overlaps the board so to remove the board you have to remove that not heatsink the the cooling fan and it helps keep the board in place I suppose but really still I should not have to remove the motherboard just to replace a hard drive it should be no ok here we go again remove the the cooling fan set that off to the side to forget about it for the moment um I don’t think anything else is holding this board in place so let’s get to the fun part I have a customer so I shall be right back

How to Restore Dell Windows 7 Computer to Factory Settings

[WPXperVideo id=13 ]everybody’s Steve on the Guru bro today I’m going to take you through the procedure for restoring to factory a dull laptop I get asked this question all the time and I think it’s best that customers learn how to do their own machines so here’s another one Dell laptop restore Windows 7 coming up okay I like to document how to restore computers whenever I have a chance to help others out there I’ve been doing this for years and you know it’s time that some users out there found out how to restore their own computer so if you’re at all interested I hope this video helps you I have other brands too you can look at my channel and find like Gateway and HP this one’s going to be about the dell inspiron this is an N 5050 and it’s a pretty common laptop that you might see here in a repair shop it has Windows 7 on it let’s go ahead and restore this computer I don’t have to save any of the data at all so I can just go for the restore I went ahead and plugged in my power cord already I’m going to go ahead and turn on the computer as soon as I turn on the computer I’m going to start tapping FA I’m doing that right now okay if you’ve done that right we’ll get this screen right here let me move my arrow so you can read what that says it’s repair your computer is the very top one that’s the one we’re going to go with okay go ahead and press ENTER now if this if this does not work if you do not have the repair your computer option you’re not going to be able to follow this tutorial any further and you’re going to have to go find yourself a restore desk okay alright for those of you that has it has has work you’ll arrive at this screen now this is going to take a few minutes to load up the main thing is just be patient and wait for it and I’ll be back as soon as my screen changes all right well that took a few minutes now my screen is stopped and it’s asking me a question it just wants me to put in the input method for my keyboard now this is the login that you used to use when this machine was before you started doing this so I need to log in with her credentials I’ll be back in just a moment all right I went ahead and put her password and then she gave me in this is the next thing it comes up the System Recovery Options you can look on down through here and read what all the different ones do the one we’re going to use will restore our Windows computer to factory state and it’s the very last one here now one more time I’m going to say this if you do not have this Dell data safe restore an emergency backup on your list then you can no longer follow this video you will have to get the CD or DVD discs that come from Dell to restore your computer that way instead of this one okay I have other videos about that subject on my channel if you wanna check them out anyway I’m going to go ahead and click on this one right here the Dell data safe restore an emergency backup click that now keep in mind that all this stuff takes time and sometimes it might look like your computer’s not doing anything but just leave it alone after you’ve clicked and allow it to come up and you see how long that took there okay so we’re at this next screen here and there’s several options that we can do the first one is to preserve newer change files I want to completely restore so I’m going to pick the second one select another system back up more options I’m gonna hit the next button here and I want to restore my computer which is right here next the list will come up and it tells me how I can restore my computer and there’s a factory image from when this machine was born Dell actually put this partition on there and it’s dated for two – 2012 at 11:43 a.m. so you can see when this machine came off the actual assembly line of Dell okay we’re going to go ahead and click them next here now keep in mind this is not going to save our files and if we have pictures or music on our computer this is going to erase all that so make sure you save that first okay one more question I’m going to restore without preserving this one next and it’s asking me to confirm it and it’s warning me that everything’s going to be deleted just like I had told you before it yes and next this is where we wait this takes some time this could take an hour could take two hours if it takes five hours or something wrong but it can take several hours okay I’ll be back this is getting ready to finish though I thought I’d go ahead and turn my camera on there’s only 1% left to go on this restore so let’s just wait a minute let’s see what happens here okay so there’s a restart button here click so you can see it’s going through all this setup prep and stuff really it might flicker on here for another few minutes I just don’t know I’ll be back as soon as it pass for another question okay well we’re getting there we started this Windows 7 setup came up so I’m just going to go ahead and click through next it’s asking for a username so I’m going to go ahead and put in the information that my customer gave me I’ll be back after that okay so I gave this computer a username and a password now it came up with s and I’m just going to answer this question for my time zone make sure the times correct which it’s not it’s time for tea something on these clocks really make sure that you hear time and data correct because if they’re not if it’s not correct you can have problems getting updates from windows and I’ve seen this happen before the computer just quits taking updates altogether just because this time of day clock was wrong so keep an eye on that next it’s asking me to join a wireless network and this is not my computer so I’m not going to do that now I’ll let my customer do that later we’re just going to skip that and I’m just going to give the network a name even though I didn’t do one looks like it’s gonna come up here I’m gonna go ahead and switch video memory cards in my camera I’ll be back in a second okay we’re still rolling along here I’m answering questions you have to agree to all this stuff before you can start using the product this is what I like to call blow wear stuff it they just blow our computers with stuff that we don’t even use so you can see this is just a lot of answering one question and then waiting 10 minutes answering another and wait and a half hour it’s really an apathetic as soon as something changes I’ll be back okay well it stopped again I have to hit the next key sometimes I wish they would just go ahead and do this for me without hitting the next key because you know it’s going to do it anyway now right now if you notice it’s gonna it’s trying to get me to install McAfee Security Center and that’s one of those programs that’s pretty personal and you don’t see a cancel or a skip or anything there’s just a next button which if I hit it it will install this McAfee let’s try the red X on that so that worked just fine now there’s something else behind here a dell staged updates available I’m just gonna cancel all this stuff and this is a Windows Update so I’m going to go ahead and take that so I have to restart now now yours might be different once you get to this point you just have to dummy up and follow through the questions I suppose and you’ll get a lot of this so anyway when I get a desktop image or something exciting happens I’ll I’ll be back all right well it looks like I’m just about done here hopefully this will be my last login before I can use the computer at this point I’ve gone ahead and connected the network Wi-Fi I’m sorry the Ethernet cable into the computer so this machine is still going to take downloads from Microsoft and Java and flash I’m sure Adobe so this is a really young install and you’re going to have to expect that you’re going to get you know updates constantly for like the first week and then you’re going to get stuff like this that you’re going to have to make go away this is that McAfee that I told I didn’t want it but I can go ahead and get rid of that in the control panel after I cancel out here Sam see they don’t even have a button where I can cancel out but what happens if I disagree disagree I’ve declined yep I am that’s one way to give her a mcafee I guess and I’ve got this box that popped up over here that wants me to create a set of backup desks for this machine and that is a good idea if you can create backup media for your machine that way if anything ever happens to the recovery partition you can use this to fix it but you’re going to have to have some blank DVDs on-hand and spend some time making these discs and you might need three or four of them just to finish install okay so that’s as far as I’m going to take you guys so that is another reinstall of Windows for a dull app top and you know I get asked to do this all the time I think it’s better if users can just do it themselves it’s it’s nothing hard if you just follow these steps so thanks for watching guys and I will How to Recover Data From a Non-Bootable (dead) Computer

[WPXperVideo id=9 ]hey guys how you doing it’s Steve on the Google brew hey so what do you do when your laptop or your desktop fails and you want pictures or music or some other important data off the hard drive in this edition of the guru brew I have an Acer Aspire in here for repair and the customer wants the photos off the machine so I’m going to have to physically take the hard drive out of the machine put it in a special rig that I have get its pictures and then put his hard drive back in the machine redo the operating system from scratch and then put his pictures all back on that’s coming up in this edition the guru brew hangout for that okay well here’s the Acer Aspire that I told you about that we’re going to be working on just for reference this is an Acer Aspire five two five oh be z87 three it has Windows seven it’s an AMD processor so I’ve already gone through checking this hard drive and the operating system is so damaged from a virus that it’s just not worth the time to try anymore to try to log into this operating system so what I’m going to do is physically take the hard drive right out of this machine right now put it in this little Ric that I have over here I’ll explain all this in a minute copyist pictures off the hard drive and then we turn them back on here as soon as this is restored here’s what the front of it looks like so before you fool around with laptops you you should always remove the battery that’s just something we should do there’s usually a little picture on the cover of what’s underneath it and this has a little picture of a ram stick and a hard drive so that’s my first food okay so there’s the hard drive poking up at me here right in the middle this little thing here’s your Wi-Fi okay over here is your RAM okay put your memory and this little battery right here is your bios battery and that keeps track of your time of date clock to keep it updated when there’s no power to this laptop that little battery keeps your time for you just like a watch battery so most of the newer laptops are SATA design so I can almost guarantee this one is going to be a SATA sometimes their screws hold and hold them in and sometimes there’s not you just have to kind of look at them figure it out so the hard drive after it took that screw out right through the slides this way we’re just going to set them left on the side of your person so usually okay this is the hard drive out of that laptop and it’s a 320 gig and the only reason why I took it out is to get big data the user data off your like I said in the beginning first thing I have to do is take this metal caddy off here and it’s just these screws you can see pulled it in on each side you can see that this bracket has like a little plastic membrane so we’re just going to put that aside for now – okay well this little Frankenstein thing is what we use to copy drives data this is a USB enclosure that my boy bought some time back that had a hard drive in it and you could read a hard drive through USB here and since then we’ve taken the cover off and I don’t think the covers been back on over a year because we use it for this purpose now but you can slide a a small SATA hard drive from a laptop in there where you can go with the full size and you can see how it just sets in there what so this is how we’re doing it were physically taking the laptop from or I’m sorry the harddrive from the laptop that was giving us problems and we’re just going to copy it with my machine here I’ve got my HP here ready to go I’m going to go ahead and turn it on and get ready to copy these files onto some removable memory so hang on for that in the big PC power supply on the bottom is just an old power supply that we use now to run this box because it needs to study 5 volts and this did come with a wall wart but my boy gave it away so that are sometimes so anyway we’re using this one here so this is the shop laptop that we use here for copying files we’ll run stuff like that it just kind of sits here does nothing a lot of times so you can see the enclosures on looks like we have some activity so it looks like the drive is now being read by the operating system this laptop is older HP Babylon and it has XP on but runs just fine I recently restored the operating system raka it was roughly slow ok let’s go ahead and we’re just going to poke around inside this folder for the hard drive and see what I have here there’s a user file here so he has two folders he has one that says Morgan and one that says public and I bet you I know why he has a virus on this machine that first one was sa frostwire isn’t that like a pure sharing network but you can always get viruses from I think so anyway that’s what I’m going to copy here’s those pictures so this is what he wanted me to save for him so yes so let’s go ahead and back this up and check how much space we’re going to need on the hard drive I’m backing up til I get to the users and I’m going to go ahead and just do a right click on this and go to properties and see how much space that says I need it’s adding it up I apologize for the filming of the screen I know it’s not a good idea to do but in these kind of cases I really don’t have a another way to do it so I know I’m going to need at least a gig and a half maybe two gigs maybe more I’m going to let this run a second until I calculate so much I need and then I’ll be back ok so it’s done estimating and it came out with like 37.9 gig so I’m going to go ahead and just put it on my desktop here I just made an empty folder I’m going to go back over to the folder of the hard drive which is here our users right click I’m going to copy that ok then I’m going to open up my empty folder that I made and paste this then paste it in I’m probably gonna have to wait till this is all done and then copy this over onto another external I hate to do that but I don’t have a thumb drive that’s 40 gig big so that’s all I have to do it alright we got a ways here for this copy it’s going to take a while ok well I’m gonna leave you with that that is how you would take a hard drive out and get the data off and then copy it on to another device in this case I just copied it onto the out layout and then eventually when I fixed the computer I hooked the laptop back up to it and removed the data back over and the customer was happy I wanted to show you these enclosures I have one of them open on the table and this is the exact one that was open but this is what it looks like when you buy them we paid about 45 dollars for this one this is a USB SATA Drive it’s just an enclosure normally these don’t come with hard drive and although we paid 40 or 45 we just recently looked this up and you can get it for as low as $20 which is a great value we also have this is the SATA model we also have an IDE model for those older drives and this is what that enclosure looks like you can see this has had a rough life most of the time we don’t have these cases on them we just take them right out of enclosure like this let’s see the hard drive just sit in there there’s a power cable and then it slides up onto these pins see there and this is also a USB device here so there’s one other way of course and that would be with a desktop computer if you have a ribbon cable inside such as this you can put a drive on each of these these pins and then you can copy it that way too so those are a few ideas for you to go ahead and copy your data get it off the drive so your customers are happening so thanks for watching this video if you find it
